Ukraine has registered a record breaking number of COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, though the numbers of daily registered cases are still fluctuating. There is no concrete lockdown plan in sight.

Right now, the trend is only going one way with corona virus in Ukraine. In the past 24 hours, Ukraine registered more than 15,000 cases of COVID-19. More worryingly, they also recorded a record high number of COVID-19 related deaths. 538 died with or because of the disease that is spreading like wildfire in the country.

More than 61,000 people have died with or from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Currently, around 250,000 active cases are registered in Ukraine. At the current rate of transmission of the disease, Ukraine will reach the level of this spring, which was the worst wave yet. At it’s peak, 450,000 people had the disease in April.

The process of vaccinating the Ukrainian population is slowly progressing. As of today 6.57 million people have been fully vaccinated. More than 8 million people have received their full dose. That makes up roughly one fifth of the population, though vaccine scepticism is still in the way of achieving herd immunity.

Currently, the so-called adaptive quarantine is currently in place as the only measure of mitigation. The restrictions limit businesses from operating at full capacity, but if costumers are vaccinated, no restrictions are applied. In effect, this means that most businesses work like normally with no limitations for costumers, vaccinated or not.
