This Ukrainian President is in Qatar, where he has managed to secure several deals. Many of them in the energy sector. 

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been in Qatar on a working trip, which was expected to land several deals in such sectors as energy. Already at this stage, there have been signed several agreements between Qatar and Ukraine. 

Among other things, Qatar’s Nebras Power and Kyiv’s UDP Renewables will enter into a consortium designed to invest in Ukrainian solar and wind plants for up to 250 million dollars, according to Sergiy Yevtushenko, UDP’s co-founder. 

“The next stage of the partnership will be the implementation of new wind power projects which will create new capacity in ‘green’ energy to provide for the needs of about 310,000 average households,” Yevtushenko wrote on Facebook. 

Also, there are discussions that Ukraine will use Qatar as a logistics hub for food exports in the region, reports Ukrinform, and talks about further flight connections.

Help develop gas sector

Qatar Petroleum is also expected to start selling gas to Ukraine, and the company will help Ukraine develop its Black Sea gas prospects, according to UBN

“Qatar is one of the largest gas producers in the world and has valuable experience and significant financial resources to invest in gas exploration and production in Ukraine,” said  Yuriy Vitrenko, the Acting Energy Minister in Ukraine. 

“Ukraine is very interested in supplying liquefied natural gas, as well as working with Qatari specialists in the development of our Black Sea shelf. We have signed a memorandum between our states, and I think we will achieve results in this direction,” said Zelensky, according to UBN. 

Will help with privatization

Ukraine is currently undergoing extensive privatization of several state-owned company’s, and Zelensky has expressed hope that Qatar will be interested in buying some companies. There are several negotiations about Qatar investing in Ukrainian ports.

Furthermore, Ukrainian President Zelensky said that Qatar expressed an interest in buying buildings and hotels in Kyiv, Kherson, and Odesa. Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding with Ukraine to take part in the privatization campaign.
