An American citizen and an Ukrainian are accused of plotting to kill the Minister of Agrarian Policy. The two citizens have been apprehended.
An assassination attempt on the Minister of Agrarian Policy Roman Leschenko has been stopped in its tracks, writes Interfax-Ukraine. The two people behind the plot have both been arrested. According to police, the motives behind the crime was money, but nothing have been proved in the courts yet.
It is the second time in a very short time, that someone has planned an attempt on a top government official. In late September, a hail of bullets was fired at Serhiy Shefir’s car. He is a top aide to president Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The bullets hit the car and wounded the driver while leaving Shefir unharmed.
In the case of Shefir, speculations about Russian influence went rampant, and so did speculations about oligarchs trying to send a message to the government regarding the de-oligarchisation law, that was in the last stages of approval at the time. None of these allegations have been proved yet.
According to the police, in the case of Leschenko, the American was the mastermind behind the plan to kill Leschenko. He was supposed to leave the country before the murder was to take place but was caught before the murder materialized.
